BEVERLY HILLS, January 30, (THEWILL) – The United States Embassy in Nigeria has refuted news reports first reported by ThisDay claiming it denied renowned preacher, Bishop David Oyedepo of Winners’ Chapel International non-immigrant visa.

The church has also confirmed that Oyedepo was not denied a visa adding that the preacher was not even at the embassy on Thursday as reported.

At no time was the Bishop denied visa, nor did he create a scene at the US consulate in Lagos, as purported by some mainstream and online newspapers.

“The Bishop renewed his visa, last year, without any initial denial or drama, or scene. The Bishop was not at the Embassy or Consulate yesterday or even anytime this year. Bishop has been in Canaanland all this week. The last time he applied for visa, which was last year, he was issued without delay,” Prof. Sheriff F. Folarin Chairman, Editorial and Media Board of the church said in a statement.

With this development, we have amended our original story and hereby apologise to the general public.

THEWILL can however report that the United States embassy in Nigeria has been hard on Nigerians seeking visas. THEWILL can also authoritatively report that some Nigerians with valid United States visas have been received emails from the embassy notifying them that their visas have been revoked without any explanations. Two senior bank executives affected confirmed the development to THEWILL.

President Donald Trump last week confirmed his intention to expand the travel ban he imposed on at least five countries when he took office. Reports suggested that Nigeria could be included.
