SAN FRANCISCO, June 24, (THEWILL) – The United Nations has refuted claims that Nigerian music star, D’banj is an ambassador of the organization.
THEWILL had previously reported that after the rape accusation leveled against the musician, Nigerians in thousands signed an online petition urging the United Nations to strip him of his honourary ambassadorship.
Reacting to this, the Director of Information, United Nations Information Centre for Nigeria, Joseph Kayanja, revealed that the organization has no ties whatsoever with the artiste.
According to the PUNCH, the Director made this revelation while responding to an email inquiry by the newspaper to ascertain the relationship between the organization and the music star.
“I would like to confirm that the said Mr. Oladapo Oyebanjo aka D’Banj is NOT a UN Ambassador. The title was accorded to him by an obscure UN youth association which has nothing to do with the United Nations. I hope this clarifies,” the mail read.
THEWILL reports that the artiste is presently battling a rape allegation, which the police is investigating. Ms. Seyitan Babatayo claims D’bang raped her in a hotel room in Lagos. D’banj denies the claim.
