SAN FRANCISCO, July 29, (THEWILL) – Uneasy calm pervaded at the Akwa Ibom State Government House in Uyo as the State Governor, Chief Godswill Akpabio, appeared set to relieve the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mr. Umana Okon Umana, of his position.

Impeccable sources told THEWILL the embattled SSG had already been asked to tender his resignation within two days, failure of which he would be booted out.

According to the sources, who craved anonymity, security operatives from the State Security Service (SSS) and the State Police Command had already taken over and cordoned off the SSG’s office, Monday morning, just as movement at the entrance to the State House from the gate was restricted by the security men who embarked on stop- and- search exercise on every vehicle going in or out of the premises.

“We have been asked to check for vital documents, we are simply obeying orders from above,” one of the security man said.

Umana, last week openly declared his intention to seek election in the 2015 governorship race. Sources said the governor wasn’t pleased with the declaration.

However, Akpabio met with the party chieftains in the state on Saturday, informing them that he had not anointed any candidate for the number one position in the state come 2015.

“Whoever goes about giving money to people in the name of 2015 elections is doing that at his volition, I have not anointed anyone to succeed me, I have always said that God’s will will be done in the state, come 2015,” Akpabio was quoted as saying at the meeting.
