Popular Nigerian musician, David Adeleke, aka ‘Davido’ has declared support for Ugandan musician turned politician, Bobi Wine, who is a presidential candidate in the coming election in the Central African country.

Wine is contesting against incumbent president, Yoweri Museveni, who has been in power since 1986. The election is scheduled for January 14.

Bobi Wine had accused Museveni of sending soldiers to attack his home and arrest his security details.

The media had also reported that the country’s telecommunication regulator, Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) had directed telecommunication companies to suspend access to social media.

THEWILL recalls that Nigeria’s entertainment industry had a tense relationship with the Ugandan government recently when the police in Kampala arrested Nigerian musicians Omah Lay and Tems in December for violating COVID-19 laws while performing at a show in that country. Curiously, the Ugandan police themselves provided security at the event

According to speculations, Ugandan musicians instigated the arrest of the Nigerian musicians. However, Bobbi Wine stood out by calling for the release of the musicians.

Davido, is not eligible to vote though but he is cashing on his popularity across the Continent to woo fans and through them voters for Wine. He took to his Twitter handle to enjoin Ugandans to vote for Bobbi Wine.

He wrote: “I’m definitely in support of good governance! And Bobi seems like a stand-up guy! He’s been fighting for revolution for a minute! Whoever wins .. I hope it’s will of the pples.”
