UEFA Unveils Euro 2024 Logo In Dazzling Light Show In Berlin’s Olympiastadion

October 06, (THEWILL) – Although the next edition of one of the world’s most prestigious soccer events is still three years away, the excitement surrounding Euro 2024 began this week with the unveiling of the tournament’s logo.

The logo was unveiled by UEFA on Tuesday with an extravagant live-streamed laser light show from Berlin’s Olympiastadion. The European Championship trophy is featured in a shield that mimics the design of the Olympiastadion roof.

The flags of UEFA’s 55 member associations were represented by twenty-four multicoloured stripes radiating from behind the trophy (one for each team competing in the tournament).

“It is great to see the logo of UEFA Euro 2024 come to life at the iconic Olympiastadion. From now on, the tournament has a brand identity which reflects the ambition we have together with the host association and host cities: a Euro which is truly for everyone,” said UEFA president Aleksander Čeferin on UEFA’s website. “For one month, we will be united by football in the heart of Europe.”

The Euro 2024 logo was conceived and developed by VMLY&R Branding, a creative agency based in Lisbon, Portugal and the tournament’s slogan, “United by Football. Vereint im Herzen Europas,” also reinforces the themes of unity, togetherness and inclusion in the brand.

Philipp Lahm, the tournament director, captured this when he said: “Euro 2024 will be a Euro for all and we look forward to welcoming fans from across Europe and the world to Germany in the summer of 2024 to celebrate a great football party together. The logo and brand identity for the tournament convey this message perfectly.”

Unlike Euro 2020, which had matches split across Europe, Euro 2024 will have all 51 matches played in Germany. Each of the ten host cities will have its own emblem, which will feature a well-known local landmark. The host cities and stadiums are:

Berlin: Olympiastadion Berlin (current capacity: 70,033)
Cologne: Stadium Cologne (46,922)
Dortmund: BVB Stadion Dortmund (61,524)
Dusseldorf: ARENA Dusseldorf (46,264)
Frankfurt: ARENA Frankfurt (48,057)
Gelsenkirchen: ARENA AufSchalke (49,471)
Hamburg: Volksparkstadion Hamburg (50,215)
Leipzig: Stadium Leipzig (46,635)
Munich: ARENA Munich (66,026)
Stuttgart: ARENA Stuttgart (50,998)

Munich was the only city in Germany to host a match during Euro 2020. While Germany hosted the World Cup in 2006, this is the first European Championship the country has hosted since reunification in 1990. (West Germany hosted in 1988).

The venue for the Euro 2024 final is yet to be selected. The competition will hold between June and July 2024, with the schedule expected to be set in early 2022, and the final tournament draws in December 2023.
