September 20, (THEWILL) – The draw for the Euro 2024 qualifying round will take place in Frankfurt, on October 9, without the Russian team included in the process.
According to UEFA, until the conflict with Ukraine is resolved, neither the Russian national team nor the country’s clubs will be permitted to play in Europe, in addition to their exclusion from the Euro competition.
This series of exclusions has been confirmed by the Russian Union of Football and comes after the Russian men’s national team lost the chance to qualify for the FIFA World Cup in Qatar later this year after being removed from a qualification playoff semifinal match against Poland that was set for Moscow in March.
Since the commencement of the conflict in Ukraine, UEFA has taken severe action against Russia, including banning its clubs from taking part in a number of European championships. The same actions have been implemented for the national team by the organisation led by Alexander Ceferin.
The qualifying period for Euro 2024 will begin in March of next year, and the competition will take place in eleven German cities from June 14 to July 14, 2024.
