October 29, (THEWILL) – On Saturday, at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan, Nigeria’s U-23 men’s national team defeated Tanzania 2-0 in the second leg of the 2022 CAF Under-23 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match.
The Nigerian team was held to a 1-1 draw away from home by their opponents last weekend in Dar es Salaam, and as a result, advanced to the next round of qualifiers 3-1 on aggregate.
Timileyin Ogunniyi’s powerful free-kick gave the Eagles the lead in the 61st minute after the first half ended without a goal, and captain, Success Makanjuola’s penalty, made it 2-0 three minutes later.
Makanjuola now has two goals in the qualifying series after equally converting a penalty kick in the 1-1 draw with Tanzania. The Salisu Yusuf team will compete against the winner of the qualifiers between Uganda and Guinea.
Tickets for the football competition in the 2024 Paris Olympics are available for teams that scale through the qualifiers.
