Two Robbers Set Ablaze, Special Adviser Escapes Assassination In Benue

May 03, (THEWILL) – Two out of the three suspected armed robbers in the early hours of Monday, met their waterloo opposite Divine Mercy Minor Seminary school, Kanshio, Makurdi local government area of Benue state.

An eyewitness said the robbers were said to have forced their way into a residence in Kanshio and attempted to rob a family after shooting in the air to send a warning signal of their diabolical intention.

It was gathered that the head of the family was said to have summoned courage and grabbed one of them, but they teamed up and rescued their member and escaped by climbing through the fence, got on a waiting motorcycle by the roadside.

According to sources, the victims raised an alarm which attracted vigilant youths in the area who gave the robbers a hot chase. Unfortunately, two of them were trapped opposite Divine Mercy Minor Seminary and were set ablaze by irate youth.

It was further gathered that one of them jumped into the Seminary fence and escaped as residents of the area came out in their numbers to catch a glimpse of the burning bodies with amazement.

In a related development, an attempt to assassinate the Special Adviser to the Governor of Benue State on Information and Orientation, Mr James Uloko, by suspected gunmen, was unsuccessful.

According to one of his Aides, the gunmen were said to have positioned themselves at the gate of his residence, but their target could not come out until at about 8am, while waiting for his driver to come and pick him for the day’s outing.

According to a report, on sighting the Adviser’s driver advancing towards the gate, the occupants of the waiting vehicle were said to have sped off in their gold-colored Toyota Corolla car.

This is coming few hours after the Adviser’s return from his hometown in Ogbadibo local government area, where he participated in Saturday’s Ward Delegates Congresses of the Peoples Democratic Party.

In a telephone chat, Mr Uloko said he has since reported the matter to the police for proper investigation.

Efforts to get confirmation from the Police Public Relations Officer for Benue State Command, Superintendent of Police, Sewuese Anene, failed as her mobile telephone line did not go through as at the time of filing this report.
