Two Of Four Missing Benue Police Officers Found

SAN FRANCISCO, February 12, (THEWILL) – Two of the four Benue police officers who were declared missing following an attack on a police team by gunmen suspected to be herders have returned to the state command.

THEWILL recalls that the four officers went missing after suspected herdsmen, said to be fully armed, opened fire on the police team while they were returning from an assignment in some villages in Logo local government area of the state on Saturday.

“The command would like to report that in furtherance of its confidence-building strategy and strengthening its visibility, police mobile force teams conducted a robust patrol of Ayilemo in Logo LGA today, February 10, 2018,” Moses Yamu, Spokesman of the command, said, following the attack.

“However, on their way back to their camp at about 14:30hrs, they came under attack of a fully armed group suspected to be herdsmen.

“In the ensuing gun battle, one of the police patrol vans caught fire. Effort ongoing to locate four of the policemen who are not seen while headcount was conducted.”

However, in a latest development disclosed by Yamu, Spokesman the two officers who have returned were in a sound state.

Yamu however, said no arrest has been made regarding the incident and that investigation is still ongoing adding that the command was looking forward to the safe return of the remaining two officers.
