BEVERLY HILLS, February 22, (THEWILL) – Players and officials of the Kwara United Football Club escaped unhurt after the team’s club bus caught fire on their return journey from a domestic cup fixture in Enugu.
No harm or injury befell any of those on board, according to Jimoh Bashir, the team’s Media Officer.
The fire which started when the Ilorin-based football club reached Asaba, Delta State, began near the left rear tyre of the bus and Good Samaritans assisted team members to immediately put out the flames.
”We are grateful to God that none of our players and officials was injured in the incident, and no case of lost life or lives,” Bashir said.
Bashir claimed that the players and officials remained in high spirits, especially for their good fortune.
Meanwhile, mechanic personnel had been contacted to fix the problem with the bus before they could continue on their return home.
The Kwara United team was in Enugu for their 2020/2021 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) Match Day 11 fixture against hosts Rangers International FC at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium.
They lost by a lone goal, scored by Chiamaka Madu in the 30th minute.
However, with six wins, three draws and two losses this season, the team remains comfortably on top of the League, polling 21 points from 11 games played so far.
Their next game is a home tie against Abia Warriors, who are one spot above the drop zone in 16th place.
