November 01, (THEWILL) – After Nuno Espirito Santo was ousted on Monday, Antonio Conte is said to be in the ‘final stages’ of talks with Tottenham.

The Italian was a top target for Spurs in the summer, but he turned down a transfer to north London, with the club instead appointing Nuno, a former Wolves manager who struggled to enthuse fans with a string of lacklustre performances that culminated in a 3-0 home defeat to Manchester United.

According to reports tracked by THEWILL, following Nuno’s dismissal, Spurs’ focus soon shifted to Conte, with the club once again anxious to entice the Italian back into management.

And it appears like things are moving rapidly, as Italian sports journalist Fabrizio Romano tweeted that talks are in their ‘final stages,’ with the pay and a long-term deal being negotiated.

Romano reported: “Antonio Conte is ready to accept [the] Tottenham proposal. Talks [are] underway and understood to be ‘at final stages’ – salary and long term contract discussed but he seems convinced to say ‘yes’.

“Negotiations to continue in the next few hours in order to complete the agreement.”

Spurs’ new manager might be announced before the end of the day, according to Sky Italy, who reports Antonio Conte will travel to London on Monday to meet with the club.

Although negotiations broke down in the summer, the club and Conte are still on excellent terms because to the former Juventus manager’s friendship with Spurs’ director of football, Fabio Paratici, who also worked in Turin.

Paratici will have to persuade the 52-year-old that Spurs can assist him add to his trophy cabinet and that the terms are acceptable.

Conte won the Serie A championship with Inter Milan in May and the Premier League with Chelsea in 2017.
