November 05, (THEWILL) – Suspected political thugs have reportedly attacked the vehicle of the former governor of Gombe State, Senator Danjuma Goje.

Goje, who left Abuja on Friday morning for a personal engagement in Gombe, was Intercepted by thugs who reportedly blocked the Bauchi–Gombe Road, around the International Conference Centre, to prevent him from entering the state capital.

The media aide of the Senator, Lilian Nworie, told newsmen on Friday that the thugs also hit Goje’s vehicles with dangerous weapons

Nworie said, “Senator Goje had a serious encounter with some political thugs who burnt tyres on the main road as he was about to enter the state capital around the International Conference Centre on the Bauchi – Gombe Road.

“Policemen stationed at the area refused to call the thugs to order as they were watching them cause mayhem in the state.”

There is no immediate reaction by either the Gombe State Government or the Gombe State Police Command over the incident.

Although, the State governor, Inuwa Yahaya had denied reports of a rift with Senator Muhammad Danjuma Goje.

However, THEWILL learnt that there has been a perceived rift between Yahaya and Goje over leadership of the All Progressives Congress in the State.

In an interview with BBC Hausa Service in September, governor Yahaya, had said he has no issues with Goje over who should be the party’s leader in the state, adding that the party’s arrangements must be adhered to.

The Governor had also emphasised that they are members of the same party, APC and that the party provisions should be followed.

“There is no row between him and me; it’s only that the party must give everyone a chance and remain honest.

“If I go astray, then I should be put back on track, and if anyone goes astray they should also be brought back on the track”, he said.
