Three Liberian Stars Arrive Nigeria For Super Eagles Clash, Others Expected

September 01, (THEWILL) – The two West African nations begin their chase for a Qatar 2022 World Cup ticket with a matchday one clash in Lagos on Friday
An early delegation of three stars of the Lone Stars of Liberia against whom Nigeria’s Super Eagles will play their opening Qatar 2022 World Cup qualifiers, arrived in Lagos on Tuesday as the first batch of their national football team to play against Nigeria in the September 3 fixture.
The three-man unit composed of Swiss club FC Aarau midfielder Allen Njie, Czech club Slavia Prague midfielder Oscar Dorley, and Cypriot side Olympiakos Nicosia striker Peter Wilson, are going to await the arrival of Liberian officials and other members of the national team in Lagos.
At club level, the 23-year-old Dorley plays alongside Nigeria’s Peter Olayinka and Ubong Ekpai at Czech Republic’s champions Slavia Prague. In their July friendly against reigning African champions Algeria, Dorley scored the only goal for Liberia in the 5-1 defeat.
Some of the invited Liberian players plying their trade abroad will enter Nigeria directly from their different clubs while the official 23-man delegation headed by the Liberian Deputy Minister for Sports Andy Quamie are bound for the Muritala Muhammad International from Liberia aboard an Air Côte d’Ivoire airline on Wednesday.
The Liberian delegation comprising of 11 players, four of whom are based overseas and seven from their domestic league, and 12 officials, will on Wednesday night all things being equal touch down in Lagos to settle down in time for the Friday encounter.
As THEWILL reported, the match between the Lone Stars and the Super Eagles will kickoff at 5.00pm local time at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos.
On their part, the senior men’s national football team of Nigeria continued their training under German manager Gernot Rohr as they fine-tuned strategies and tactics to open the qualifiers with victory at home to start on a strong and confidence note.
