BEVERLY HILLS, June 07, (THEWILL) – Popular American actor, Clarence Williams III, who featured in the cool undercover cop Linc Hayes on the counterculture series “The Mod Squad” and Prince’s father in “Purple Rain,” is dead at the age of 81.
According to his manager, Allan Mindel, in a statement on Sunday, he died on Friday in his home in Los Angeles after he suffered from colon cancer.
He started his career in a production of “Dark of the Moon,” and appeared on Broadway in “The Great Outdoors”.
THEWILL writes that the performance of the deceased actor in “Slow Dance on the Killing Ground” got him a Theatre World Award and a Tony nomination.
Williams is a native of New York and his career spanned over five decades in theater, television, and film.
