BEVERLY HILLS, January 17, (THEWILL) – Mesut Ozil, the estranged skillful playmaker for English Premiership club Arsenal midfielder has confirmed his imminent exit from the North London team as he is set to travel to Turkey to seal a move to Fenerbahce SK.

An agreement has been reached between the parties involved to terminate Ozil’s contract six months earlier than scheduled. The Gunners are eager to strike the exiled midfielder and his enormous wage packet off their payroll, just as the player is eager to put the Arsenal headache behind him.

This Fernabache move was always the most likely route away from the Emirates Stadium for the former German international especially because Ozil had consistently flirted with the Turkish side on Twitter ever since news of his leaving came to light.

Then, the player confirmed the move himself on Turkish TV on Sunday. Responding to questions on NTV, he said:

“I am so happy. I’m a Fenerbahce fan. God wanted me to play football in Fenerbahce. I’m proud.

“I am coming tonight with my family to Istanbul, thank God who gave me the opportunity to represent this club. I will wear the shirt with pride.”

His flight to Istanbul should touchdown shortly after midnight on Monday morning. From there he will head to Fenerbahce for a medical and put pen to paper on a contract which has already been agreed in principle with representatives of the midfielder.

Ozil, who had regularly kept up with followers and supporters on social media, cryptically posted the number ’67’ on Twitter on Sunday. It is believed to be a reference to the number he has chosen for his shirt with Fenerbahce. The allusion is that he picked it because the number 67 is how the postcode of his hometown of Zonguldak begins.

The deal allowing him to leave earlier than the term of his contract will bring an end to Ozil’s turbulent spell in North London. Arsenal’s highest-paid player ever has not featured for Mikel Arteta’s side since March 2020, with the club’s official line always being that the German is dealing with a back injury, which has turned out to be misleading.

The 32-year-old, when he leaves, will leave a record of 254 appearances for Arsenal under his belt, wherein he bagged 44 goals with 77 assists to earn himself a reputation as one of the Premier League’s most mesmeric creators and gifted midfielders.

The constant criticism the player faced in the English press had to do with his work rate. Many believed his stamina was not up to par for the drudgery of the Premier League especially for a club with hopes of competing at the highest levels. This was juxtaposed with his high wages to compute a conclusion at Arsenal’s disadvantage.

Arsenal now appear set to confirm his departure and bring an end to all the off-field drama while saving some money from the deal and Ozil, on the other hand, gets to drop all the English baggage off his shoulders while playing with pleasure for his boyhood club to the advantage of Fenerbahce.

It is the rarity of a win-win-win for all parties.
