BEVERLY HILLS, February 19, (THEWILL) – The Chairman Board of Trustees of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), Kashim Ibrahim Imam, has said the intervention agency would require the sum of N500 billion for its activities in 2022, an increase of 40 percent from this year’s spending.

Alhaji Ibrahim said the money would be deployed to critical infrastructure, research, publications, laboratory equipment, e-learning, hostel accommodation, solar power generation and other interventions in tertiary institutions across the country.

The money, he said, was contingent upon the several academic learning, research and infrastructural demands on ground from the various institutions of learning across the country targeted at improving the ranking of the Nigerian universities in global rating.

The TETFund Chairman, who disclosed this in an interview with journalists in Maiduguri during an inspection visit to completed and ongoing projects in tertiary institutions in Borno and Yobe states, said: “Last year we budgeted N250 billion; this year it was N300 billion and we are targeting N500 billion (in 2022) in order to increase funding to tertiary institutions in our efforts to provide more interventions to critical infrastructures, research and training.

“Others include energising the campuses, library interventions, e-learning and hotel accommodation among others to our tertiary institutions and improve the rating of our universities in global ranking as such we have contracted a firm to work with Federal Inland Revenue (FIRS) to meet our target.”
