September 30, (THEWILL) – Erik ten Hag, Manchester United manager, has been named the Premier League Manager of the Month for September, after staging a stunning comeback after a disastrous start to the season.
United defeated an Arsenal team that had been riding a similarly good winning streak before winning both of their Premier League games in September. Since suffering back-to-back losses in August, United has now won four league games in a row.
Ten Hag, who joined the Premier League in the summer after leaving Ajax, has only been in charge for two months. He is the first Dutchman to win the award since Ronald Koeman in January 2016. Since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took over in January 2019, over four years ago, no other United manager has won the award.
Martin Jol is the only other Dutch coach to have been named manager of the month in the Premier League. Koeman was a multiple winner during his successful time with Southampton.
Ten Hag won this honour earlier in his Premier League career than both Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp did, respectively, in theirs. Ten Hag defeated Spurs manager Antonio Conte and interim Bournemouth coach, Gary O’Neil, to win the award.
