Tavares May Be Leave On Loan To Marseille As Arsenal Continue To Chase Martinez

June 23, (THEWILL) – There are indications that Arsenal may agree to let Nuno Tavares depart on loan to Marseille if the north London club is successful in bringing in a replacement.

Although Tavares only recently signed with the English Premier League team last summer, Mikel Arteta’s side is already considering allowing him to leave on a temporary basis even though he still needs to strengthen his back line through the transfer market, with Lisandro Martinez of Ajax being the top target.

Marseille finished second in Ligue 1 and Jorge Sampaoli’s team has an UEFA Champions League campaign to prepare for, and Marseille would like to bring Tavares to Stade Velodrome. He joined Arsenal in July 2021 from Benfica for almost £8 million, and made 28 appearances in all competitions, scoring one goal to help Mikel Arteta’s team reach the Europa League.

Marquinhos, Matt Turner, and Fabio Vieira have already joined Arsenal in this transfer window. Raphinha of Leeds United and Gabriel Jesus of Manchester City are also on Arsenal’s list of targets.

As for outgoings, Konstantinos Mavropanos and forward Alexandre Lacazette have left, but Englishman Eddie Nketiah has been given a new deal and will see to it that he continues to improve on his performances at the end of last season.
