SAN FRANCISCO, February 23, (THEWILL) – The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Honourable Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, Sunday paid a visit to former President Olusegun Obasanjo at his Abeokuta residence where both politicians met behind closed-doors.

Tambuwal arrived the residence at about 10.30am in a convoy of four vehicles alongside Deputy Minority Leader; Kawu Sumaila (Kano), Ajibola Muraina (Osun) and Aminu Shagari (Sokoto).

When they emerged from the residence after about 1.30 minutes, Tambuwal told reporters that they came to consult with the former president on “matters of national interest.”

“We needed to consult our leaders on such very important and vital legislation before we conclude what we are doing on them and electoral act is likely to be amended. So, from his wealth of experience, we needed some input,” he said.

The Speaker also denied insinuations that he had left the ruling PDP, insisting that himself and Obasanjo remained members of the party despite the cold war between them and President Gooduck Jonathan.

On the suspension, Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi as Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), the Speaker said, “Whether the suspension is lawful, legal or illegal, the personality involved has told everybody that he is going to court and I believe he is already in court on that suspension.

“On the implications on the economy, I am not an economist but I personally feel that that will definitely send wrong signals to investors because they need to have confidence in the financial institutions, particularly the independence of financial institutions of the country before foreign investors may consider such a country worthy of investment. So, I have my concern about that.”
