December 02, (THEWILL) – At the ongoing 21st National Sports Festival in Asaba, Teams Rivers, Lagos, Ondo, Cross River, Kwara, and Oyo qualified for the round of 16 of the Table Tennis competition on Thursday.
The male and female table tennis divisions competed at the Indoor Sports Hall of the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba. The Lagos Female team defeated Plateau in the first game of the day, and Team Oyo defeated Team Adamawa.
In the other female team competition, Cross River defeated Khadijat Lawal and Taiwo Ayobami 3-0 to scores of 11-6, 11-9, and 11-3, thanks to the efforts of Vivian Oku and Hope Udoka.
After their win, Oku and Udoka expressed optimism in their ability to advance to the final. Udoka claimed that after travelling by road for several hours to get to Asaba, she had not had enough rest and had a stressful start to the festival.
In her part, Oku claimed that she did not anticipate a difficult test from the Osun players, adding that she was pleased with the outcome.
