BEVERLY HILLS, June 06, (THEWILL) – Many have been reported killed with houses and vehicles burnt during an attack within the Igangan community in Ibarapa Area of Oyo State.

The palace of the area’s traditional ruler was also torched along with a petrol station in the rural community.

Although the police are yet to confirm the number of deaths, a command spokesman, Wale Osifeso, said the assailants, suspected to be Fulani herdsmen, attacked the area last night with guns and other dangerous weapons but a combined team of the police, hunters, and vigilantes were able to beat back the criminal elements.

Osifeso further stated that the situation was being closely monitored and a comprehensive investigation was ongoing to apprehend the perpetrators.

This attack comes days after Governor Seyi Makinde visited the area and held a town hall meeting with the community.

Ibarapa has been under the spotlight recently over clashes erupting intermittently between farmers and Fulani herders and kidnappers, resulting in deaths and injuries.
