Suspected Arsonists Again Raze Down INEC Offices In Ebonyi

BEVERLY HILLS, May 19, (THEWILL) – Suspected arsonists on Tuesday night, razed down two offices of the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) in Ebonyi State.

Confirming the incident, the Commission in an alert on Tweeter, stated: “Last night, Tuesday 18th May 2021, two INEC offices in Ebonyi and Ezza North Local Government Areas of Ebonyi State were burnt down by unidentified persons. No casualties but extensive damages to the building and facilities.”

This is coming weeks after the commission’s offices in Akwa Ibom, Abia, Anambra, Enugu and Imo were also razed by unknown hoodlums.

The latest attack brings the number of offices of the commission that have been torched to 23.

A breakdown of the incidents showed that the most affected states include Akwa Ibom (four), Abia (three) Anambra (two) and Imo (two).

Other states that witnessed fire incidents between February 2019 and May 2021 are Borno, Ebonyi, Jigawa, Kano, Ondo, Plateau, Rivers and Abuja.
