BEVERLY HILLS, January 18, (THEWILL) – The January transfer window is witnessing more mobility in the ranks of Nigeria’s senior women’s national football team, the Super Falcons. On Monday, Lewes Football Club, an English club based in Lewes, Easy Sussex announced the signing of the skillfully experienced Nigerian international,si Ini Umotong.

The 26-year-old striker was previously with the Swedish side Växjö DFF that she joined in July 2020, where she played 13 games in their colours in the Damallsvenskan scoring twice in the process. She moved to the Rooks from Växjö.

As a professional, Umotong’s career took off at Portsmouth. The striker helped them to their seventh consecutive Hampshire County Cup in 2015 and to the league title as well. Her incredible form in front of goal ensured she finished as the top goal scorer for Pompey, with 29 goals to her name across all competitions in 25 appearances.

Her next port of call after leaving Portsmouth was Oxford United. The striker was at it again becoming the top goal scorer in the formerly known FA Women’s Super League 2 in 2016, chalking up 13 goals in 19 games. Then, in the 2017 WSL Spring Series, in the seven games Umotong featured in, she netted four times.

Brighton & Hove Albion also witnessed Umotong’s sterling scoring prowess before she transferred out to Sweden. She joined the Seagulls in July 2017 and, in typical fashion, finished as their top goal scorer, netting 10 times in 19 games, on their way to a second place in the FA WSL 2. She notched up 25 appearances for Albion in the 2018/19 season across all competitions.

Her contributions for Albion last season, helped them reach the quarter-finals of the FA Cup. One of her goals was the third goal in a 3-nil victory over rivals Crystal Palace.

Umotong has earned her stripes with seven international caps to go with her team goal scoring skills. She scored her first goal for the Super Falcons in January 2019 against Romania in the Four Nations tournament third place play-off. Her goal helped Nigeria to a 4-1 victory.

It is this clinical form in the final third that she will bring in her move to Lewes. Her arrival at Lewes is just the start of an exciting few months for the club who have ambitions to break into the Women’s Super League, become full-time and set up an academy.
