October 13, (THEWILL) – Nigeria’s senior women’s national football team, the Super Falcons of Nigeria, have moved up one spot in the most recent FIFA/Coca-Cola Women’s World Ranking in Thursday’s issue released by the FIFA.
The former African champions went from 46th to 45th in a timeframe where they suffered two losses in their last three games, two against the world champions, the United States Women’s National Team (USWNT) and one against the Nadeshiko of Japan.
However, the Super Falcons continued to hold the top spot in Africa, ahead of Banyana Banyana of South Africa, the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon, the Black Queens of Ghana, and the Elephants of Cote d’lvoire.
Not much has changed at the top of the FIFA/Coca-Cola Women’s World Ranking, as the USWNT continues to maintain their lead.
FIFA stated that the seedings for the final draw for the 2023 Women’s World Cup, which will be co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand, will be determined by the October ranking and added that there are now a record-breaking 187 national teams in the ranking.
