BEVERLY HILLS, March 27, (THEWILL) – Ahead of playing their own tie against the Squirrels of the Republic of Benin, Nigeria’s Super Eagles have qualified for the TOTAL African Cup of Nations (AFCON), Cameroon 2022
The result from the penultimate Group L match between Lesotho and Sierra Leone in the Setsoto Stadium, Maseru in Lesotho, gave the Nigerians a comfortable berth for next year’s tournament.
This is because the Crocodiles of Lesotho played a goalless draw against the Leone Stars of Sierra Leone, which earned each team a point.
Mathematically therefore, irrespective of what happens in the last group matches between Nigeria and Lesotho, and between Sierra Leone and Benin on Tuesday, neither will have enough points to qualify out of the Group.
Lesotho remains rock-bottom of the group on only three points for their three draws and two losses in the five matches played while Sierra Leone, who drew four and lost one to reach four points ended up third in the Group with not enough points as well to affect the outcome of the qualification matches remaining.
Be that as it may, Gernot Rohr’s charges will still be expected to take their contention against the Squirrels of Benin with all the seriousness it deserves to show improvements in the squad and make up for the dismal results that have made calls for his removal intensify.
The match is expected to begin by 5pm local time.
