BEVERLY HILLS, November 20, (THEWILL) – Super Eagles defender, Leon Balogun has undergone surgery after suffering a fracture to his left hand on Friday.

The Nigerian international star did not play for his German clubside, FSV Mainz 05, in their 1-0 win over Cologne on Saturday afternoon.

The German club confirmed the situation on their twitter handle: “Leon Balogun suffered a middle hand fracture on his left hand on Friday, which was treated surgically.

“However, with appropriate healing and a track, the centre-back can return to the pitch in the coming weeks and be available for the last group matches.”

THEWILL recalls that Balogun, on October 20, underwent an operation on his broken cheek bone after he was injured in his team’s 2-0 defeat by Schalke 04 in their Bundesliga clash at Veltins-Arena in Gelsenkirchen.

The development forced the former Darmstadt 98 star to wear a mask while playing for the O-Fives and the Eagles in recent matches against Algeria and Argentina.

The former Werder Bremen player made his international debut for Nigeria in the 0-0 draw in a friendly game against Mexico in March 2014.
