SAN FRANCISCO, June 24, (THEWILL) – The Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, NSCIA, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, has declared Sunday as the Eid-el-Fitr day.

Eid al-Fitr, which means “festival of breaking the fast”, marks the end of the Muslim holy fasting month of Ramadan.

Declaring an end to Ramadan, the Sultan of Sokoto stated that Sunday June 25, equivalent of Shawwal 1, is Sallah, disclosing that the new moon was sighted in parts of the country including Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states.

He made this declaration on Saturday night at his palace in Sokoto, requesting Muslims all over Nigeria to cease fasting as the exercise is not permitted on Sallah day.

He congratulated the Muslims for their successful completion of the month-long fasting period and urged them to keep alive the lessons of Ramadan even after fasting is over.
