BEVERLY HILLS, May 12, (THEWILL) – After the faux pas of the European Super League settled with the backlash that forced some of the founding members of the project to beat an immediate retreat back to the fold of established football structure, three of these founding members remained adamant with the idea of a breakaway league, in spite of pressure from the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) and FIFA.

Now, it appears this three of Barcelona, Real Madrid and Juventus face a potential two-season ban from the UEFA Champions League if their continue to stubbornly refuse to withdraw from the breakaway division and sign a settlement agreement with UEFA, as the other nine did as a conciliatory display of remorse.

However, not only have the trio stuck to the defunct League, they have proceeded to excoriate the other nine teams for bending to UEFA’s “unacceptable” pressures and threats. These threats might become applicable as bans with the news that UEFA will proceed with the ban should they not commit to the Club Commitment Declaration as the nine others did.

This comes after UEFA was unsuccessful in their efforts to convince Barca, Madrid and Juve that there were going to be sanctions for failing to comply. Seeing their recalcitrance, UEFA initiated an official case against the three on Friday.

A statement from the Union noted with clarity that it was ready to “take whatever action it deems appropriate” against the three teams.

The statement read: “UEFA has reserved all rights to take whatever action it deems appropriate against those clubs that have so far refused to renounce the so-called ‘Super League’. The matter will promptly be referred to the competent UEFA disciplinary bodies.”

THEWILL recalls that the three standout clubs issued a joint statement on Saturday, sticking to the Super League, while claiming to be under “unacceptable” pressure and threats from all corners. They stressed that their proposed league had been created for the “good of football” but their pleas have fallen on deaf ears around the world.
