Stock Market Today: Market Cap Sheds N38b

SAN FRANCISCO, September 09, (THEWILL) – The Nigerian stock market closed at 4,155 deals on Wednesday, lower than the 4,185 deals it closed with on Tuesday, while the volume of trades reached 269.6 million units at the close of the market, higher than the 251.9 million units it closed with on Tuesday.

The stock market lost N38b and ended with NGN13.263 trillion equity capitalization, lower than the NGN13.301 trillion of Tuesday. However, the value of trades recorded was NGN2.871 billion, surpassing the NGN2.044 billion.

Meanwhile, the All-Share Index reached 25,424.91 index points today, lower than the 25,497.32 index points it ended trading with on Tuesday.

Fidson led the top gainers’ chart after its stock price gained NGN0.27 kobo to close trading at NGN3.98 kobo per share after opening today’s trading with NGN3.71 kobo per share, this is according to Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) market data.

PZ Cussons was second on the table, as its stock price gained NGN0.25 kobo to close the market with NGN4.25 kobo per share, having started trading today with NGN4 per share.

On the top of the losers’ list was Okomu Oil, which had begun trading earlier today at NGN79 per share, only to drop in price by NGN-1 to close at NGN78 per share at the end of trading today.

Unilever was second on the chart after closing at NGN14.4 kobo per share from its opening trade price of NGN15 per share; this represents a drop of NGN-0.6 kobo.

The top trade stock in the market for today was Zenith Bank, which traded a volume of over 35.8 million units worth NGN592.1 million. First Bank was next with over 33.4 million units worth over NGN166.9 million.
