December 09, (THEWILL) – Following a significant number of COVID-19 cases at Tottenham Hotspur, it has been officially declared that the Europa Conference League match between the English club and Stade Rennais will not take place as scheduled.
Spurs announced that eight players and five staff members have tested positive for COVID-19.
Manager Antonio Conte noted during his pre-match press conference that “everyone is a little scared” and questioned the wisdom of playing the game.
Spurs said in a statement that an update on when the game will be played will be provided as soon as possible.
As THEWILL reported, Spurs were poised to request that their match against Brighton on Sunday be postponed by the English Premier League.
In the meantime, seven Leicester City players have tested positive before of Thursday’s Europa League match against Napoli.
