BEVERLY HILLS, February 16, (THEWILL) – Six children were among seven killed following an explosion that rocked Magami village in Maradun Local Government Area of Zamfara State after unwary victims picked up an explosive device they erroneously took for a plaything.
Confirming the incident earlier today, Zamfara State’s Commissioner for Security and Home Affairs, Abubakar Dauran, said the victims went to the bush in search of firewood when they picked an explosive device and began playing with it, shortly after which it exploded.
While six children died instantly, another victim died in hospital where those with various degrees of injuries had been taken.
The injured were immediately rushed to a hospital in Gusau, the state capital for medical attention.
Dauran said information later reached him that one other victim, the seventh, died at the hospital.
