November 23, (THEWILL) – Sergio Ramos has been named in the PSG squad to face Manchester City on Wednesday, marking the first time the 35-year-old has travelled with his new club.

After failing to reach an agreement on a new deal with Real Madrid, Ramos joined PSG on a free transfer in the summer, as THEWILL reported. But, Ramos sustained a calf injury at the outset of his career in France and is yet to make his debut for the Parisians.

Ramos had an injury-plagued final season in Madrid, making only 15 league games and missing out on a spot in Spain’s Euro 2020 team. With some time for solo work on the pitch due to his calf injury, PSG confirmed that Ramos would resume team training on November 5.

Only Julian Draxler and Rafinha are injured in Mauricio Pochettino’s squad for the trip to Manchester. Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe, and Neymar are among the 23-man star-studded squad coming to the Emirates.

Meanwhile, City will be without Ferran Torres as he recovers from a fractured foot, while Kevin De Bruyne and Jack Grealish, who both missed Sunday’s 3-0 win over Everton, are doubtful.

Ramos’ return to active football is a huge lift for him after a three-month wait to make his PSG debut. His fitness has been questioned since last season, when he made just 21 appearances across all competitions and struggled with fitness in the second half of the campaign.

Ramos did not play in the La Liga following the 2-1 win over Elche on March 13, although he made a cameo appearance in the Champions League second leg against Chelsea on May 5, where he was unable to prevent Chelsea from progressing to the final.

His return augurs well for PSG. This season, especially in the Champions League, their defence has been questionable at times and they can definitely put the defensive talents of an accomplished centre back like Ramos to good use.
