BEVERLY HILLS, March 09, (THEWILL) – Opposition has continued to trail the unbundling of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, as the Upper Chamber of the National Assembly on Wednesday described the action as illegal. It has also begun the process of probing the decision taken by President Muhammadu Buhari.

The Senate Chief Whip, Senator Olusola Adeyeye, in a Point of Order he raised during Wednesday’s plenary, drew the attention of his colleagues to the unbundling of the oil firm in charge of the oil and gas sector in the country.

Adeyeye who will formally present a motion on Thursday where there would be extensive debate at the plenary, described the exercise as illegal as the federal government did not consult the National Assembly to repeal the enabling law that set up the organisation, before breaking it into different components.

This is happening the same day that workers of the state oil firm shut down the corporation’s operations nationwide to protest against the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu as well as the NNPC management for not carrying them along in the decision.
