Samuel Ortom Wins, Declared Winner Of Benue Governorship Election

SAN FRANCISCO, March 24, (THEWILL) – The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Incumbent Governor of Benue State and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Samuel Ortom, as winner of the state’s governorship election.

Ortom was declared winner on Sunday, after the results of the rerun were announced in Benue by Professor Sebastain Maimako, the Returning Officer of the state.

He had polled 410,576 votes before the supplementary elections that held on March 23, 2019, against 329,022 votes secured by Emmanuel jime, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and was leading with 81,554 votes.

However, the elections were declared inconclusive as elections did not take place in areas that had a combined voting strength of 121,019 votes.

After the supplementary elections, at final count, Ortom garnered 434,473 votes to defeat Jime who secured 345,155 votes thereby, winning by a margin of 89,318 votes.
