September 29, (THEWILL) – Liverpool’s perfect start to this season’s UEFA Champions League continued with a 5-1 win over FC Porto at the Estadio Do Dragao.

After Diogo Costa failed to deal with a Curtis Jones’ low effort from the left, Salah opened the scoring on 18 minutes. On the stroke of halftime, the Merseysiders doubled their lead when Costa hesitated in the face of James Milner’s low cross, and Sadio Mane joyfully tapped in at the back post.

Salah then scored his 30th Champions League goal with a brilliant strike from a Jones’ feed, before Mehdi Taremi’s header drew one back for the hosts.

Late on, however, Jurgen Klopp’s side completed an emphatic victory with a quick-fire brace from substitute Firmino.

The Reds now lead the pool with six points. Atletico Madrid is in second place with four points, Porto is in third place with one point, and AC Milan is in fourth place with zero points.

With a double-header against Atletico coming up, Klopp will be thrilled to have two wins from two and some breathing room between his side and the other teams.

This was also an excellent way to prepare for their Premier League match against Manchester City on Sunday. The defense looked more assured and did not appear to be under as much pressure as it did in the 3-3 draw with Brentford, while the attack continues to thrive, with Salah showcasing his red-hot form once more.

Three of their four star forwards scored, and Klopp was able to give Mane and Salah an early restwith Trent Alexander Arnold looking set to miss the weekend encounter against the EPL champions who lost 2-0 to PSG.

The Merseysiders had earlier in the day announced the loss of one of their greatest ever strikers, Roger Hunt, as THEWILL reported, and replied with an appropriately stylish performance in his honour.
