August 17, (THEWILL) – Sequel to the punching incident on Sunday during the Summer League contest in Las Vegas between Sacramento Kings and the Dallas Mavericks when Kings’ Chimezie Metu unleashed on Mavericks forward Eugene Omoruyi, Metu has been suspended one game according to the league announcement
As THEWILL reported, Metu was on the receiving end of a hard foul by Omoruyi late in the fourth quarter. The Kings’ big man immediately sprang to his feet and swung at the Dallas rookie. It earned both players an ejection as Omoruyi’s foul was reviewed to have been hard.
Although Omoruyi was assessed to have committed a Flagrant Foul 2 for his mid-air shove of Metu, and for which he earned his automatic ejection, he was not given a suspension for the foul but needed to be restrained by teammates before he had time for a retort.
The suspension for the 24-year-old Metuh will see the forward out of contention for the Tuesday fixture when the Kings will attempt to win the Las Vegas Summer League against the Boston Celtics with their undefeated streak intact all the way through.
The Southern California native is still trying to carve a career out for himself in the league after the San Antonio Spurs selected him No. 49 overall out of USC in 2018. Metuh played 47 total games with the Spurs from 2018-2020. He was waived at the start the 2020-21 season, landing with the Kings a week later on a two-way trade.
Last year, he featured in 36 games for Sacramento where he averaged 6.3 points and 3.1 rebounds in 13.6 minutes per night. Metuh made six starts with the club as well before averaging 9.5 points and 6.8 rebounds over four exhibition matchups in Vegas ahead of this suspension.
However, fortunately for Metuh, he will be available to play when the Mavericks close out their Summer League slate with a tie against the Miami Heat on Tuesday.
