April 02, (THEWILL) – Cristiano Ronaldo will not be in Manchester United’s starting XI in their return to English Premier League action against Leicester at Old Trafford on Saturday.
The Portuguese forward is out of the United team due to illness and was not with the rest of the team at the Lowry Hotel, where they lodged ahead of the fixture at home.
Ronaldo has found the back of the net 18 times in 32 games in all competitions for the club so far this season and his absence will mean United will be without their leading scorer for the important match.
In the last League outing at Old Trafford, the Portuguese superstar scored a hat-trick as United defeated fellow top-four contenders Tottenham 3-2.
During the international break, the 37-year-old also played for Portugal, and, though he did not score, he helped his country qualify for Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup with victories against Turkey and North Macedonia.
Edinson Cavani is also sidelined for United due to an injury he sustained while playing for Uruguay. In their absences, Anthony Elanga and Jadon Sancho will lead United’s frontline with Bruno Fernandes, fresh off his contract extension, providing support from the middle of the park.
