July 29, (THEWILL) – The name of Cristiano Ronaldo is conspicuously missing from the 21-man roster for Manchester United’s preseason match against Atletico Madrid on Saturday.
This weekend, the Red Devils play two friendlies: first, they play Atletico in Norway, then on Sunday, they welcome Rayo Vallecano at Old Trafford.
Ronaldo has missed every Man Utd preseason game thus far after being given permission to take time off for personal reasons. In an effort to force a transfer out of the club, he sat out a game earlier this week against Wrexham that was played behind closed doors. He will not take part against Atletico on Saturday either.
Ironically, the Portuguese superstar has recently been linked with a transfer to the Spanish team, despite club president Enrique Cerezo’s denial of such a move.
Newcomers to Old Trafford Tyrell Malacia, Christian Eriksen, and Lisandro Martinez were all named in the squad although certain players were left out and are anticipated to play more significantly against Rayo Vallecano.
