BEVERLY HILLS, October 14, (THEWILL) – Coming on the heels of his positive test for COVID-19, Cristiano Ronaldo has left Portugal in an air ambulance to continue his self-isolation at his luxurious home in Turin, Italy.

The 35-year-old Portuguese superstar footballer left Tires Airport in Cascais near Lisbon around 1.45pm local time aboard the ambulance.

The jet itself is a specially equipped Bombardier Learjet 45XR LX-ONE, operated by Luxembourg Air Rescue which conveys people who have suffered illnesses or accidents abroad and need to get back home.

The positive Coronavirus test ruled the Juventus striker out of Portugal’s Wednesday night’s UEFA Nations League match against Sweden. In his absence though, Diogo Jota ensured he was not entirely missed with a brace and an assist to help Portugal to a 3-0 win.

There was no official comment from the Portuguese FA on Ronaldo’s departure, although it is understood the forward requested and received permission to travel.

Ronaldo is certain to miss Juventus’ Serie A match at Crotone on Saturday and the team’s Champions League opener at Dynamo Kyiv on Tuesday. Depending on his condition and the results of future tests, he could also miss the much-anticipated match against Barcelona, the UEFA Champions League ‘El Clasico’ on October 28.

Other soccer players who have tested positive for COVID-19 recently include Neymar, Kylian Mbappé, Paul Pogba, Paulo Dybala, Ángel Di María, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Diego Costa.
