October 22, (THEWILL) – With Roma’s shock defeat to Bodo/Glimt, the Norwegian professional football club from the town of Bodø that currently plays in Eliteserien, the Norwegian top division, Jose Mourinho has conceded six goals in a single match for the first time in his managerial career.
On Thursday night, the Serie A side faced Bodo/Glimt in the Europa Conference League. Mourinho fielded a slightly depleted team, and Erik Botheim and Patrick Berg scored two goals in the first 20 minutes.
Roma got a goal back through Carles Perez on 28 minutes, but Botheim added another just after halftime. Bodo/Glimt won 6-1 thanks to a second-half brace from Ola Solbakken and a goal from Amahl Pellegrino.
It was Jose Mourinho’s 1008th match as a manager. In his 21-year managerial career, which began with Benfica in 2000, this is the first time he has ever managed a team that has conceded six goals in a single game.
At the end of the tie, Roma players went over to apologise to the disappointed Roma fans who travelled to Norway to watch their team lose so disastrously.
Although it was not the heaviest defeat they have endured in Europe, given that they once lose 7-1 in the Champions League, the fact that it came against such minor players in a less prestigious tournament made it seem even more humiliating to some.
Around 400 Roma fans travelled to Norway, and they were enraged when the final whistle blew, chanting insults and protests. The Giallorossi players apologised in that section of the stadium, led by captain and substitute Lorenzo Pellegrini.
In Group C of the Conference League, Roma are now second. Tottenham, Mourinho’s former club, also had a bad night, losing 1-0 away from home to Vitesse in the same competition, as THEWILL reported.
