SAN FRANCISCO, August 10, (THEWILL) – At least 10 persons have been reported killed in robbery attacks on two banks in Igara, Edo state.
The incident occurred at 5 p.m. on Thursday. The robbers invaded the two commercial banks in the town, killing 10 persons, including security officers attached to the banks.
The robbers had earlier attacked the local police station where they shot and killed a policeman on duty with two detainees while also setting the only vehicle on sight a Toyota Hilux on fire.
They then proceeded to attack the banks.
At least four other persons were reportedly killed at the banks when the armed men could not gain access to the vaults of the banks.
The Secretary to the Otaru of Igarra, Chief Folorunsho Dania, confirmed the incident.
He told NAN in an telephone interview that 10 persons were feared dead and the police station set ablaze.
“This is a serious case, armed robbers have besieged Igarra, in Akoko Edo Local Government, so many lives killed, 10 persons have been killed. Three people were killed and in the banks too,” he said.
Many persons were killed. It is a calamity. In all, ten lives have gone.
The Police Public Relations Officer in Edo, Chidi Nwabuzor, said information on the attack was still sketchy and would release details later.
