December 08, (THEWILL) – The Executive Director of Programs, African Centre for Justice and Human Rights, Miss Chinomso Nduka Edede, has commended Aiteo’s technical ingenuity for successfully stopping the leak on its Santa Barbara wellhead in Nembe, Bayelsa state.

Aiteo had in a statement issued on November 9, 2021, reported an oil spill from a non-producing well head in its Santa Barbara South field, in Nembe Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.

However, Aiteo on Wednesday said the leak has now been fully stopped.

“To the glory of God, we have put out the leak at SBAS-1. We are grateful for all the support. We have successfully installed control packages on both arms.

“There’s a rig up pump on the long string and the pump opens the ball valve. Also, we have closed both control packages and shut-in well flow. The team is currently preparing to pump ‘kill fluid’ into the long string. Note that the short string is already killed and dead with zero pressure”, Aiteo said in a statement on Wednesday

Ms Edede, who has been in Bayelsa monitoring events since the spill was announced by the company in November, said Aìteo exhibited extraordinary technical capacity which no other company can if faced with similar challenges noting that AITEO put the people first at all times and not money or business.

She also commended the people of Nembe who in the face of the challenges stood together and helped one another to pull through saying that was the spirit that was worthy of emulation for all Nigerians.

She said “Finally we can now leave Bayelsa. We pledged to the people not to leave until we saw this process to an end and ensured the people were not shortchanged. We are glad we have seen the end and the people were not mistreated or used for business sampling.

“We appreciate AITEO for that and urge all Nigerian companies to emulate them
