Resident Doctors Suspend Strike For 4 Weeks

BEVERLY HILLS, April 11, (THEWILL) – The National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has suspended its strike, which started on April 1, 2021.

The resident doctors reached the decision to end the strike at a virtual National Executive Council (NEC) meeting which ended Saturday evening

President of the NARD, Dr Uyilawa Okhuaihesuyi, said the decision to suspend the strike followed a new agreement reached with the Federal Government on Saturday morning.

He said: “All house officers yet to be paid, will be paid by Monday.

“All our members on GIFMIS would be migrated to IPPIS and paid their owed salaries in earnest and those still being owed 2020 Medical Residency Training Fund (MRTF)will be paid from the supplementary 2021 budget.

“2021 MRTF sorted and Increment in hazard allowance is being worked on.”

He however gave the government four weeks ultimatum to meet their sundry demands.

He said: “The strike has been suspended for four weeks and isolation centres resume 8 a.m. on Sunday and others on Monday.

“The government gave us some good comebacks from our negotiations.

“We had an emergency National Executive Council (NEC) meeting an hour ago, and we decided to suspend the strike for four weeks.”
