SAN FRANCISCO, October 06, (THEWILL) – More chieftains of the Borno State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.

In the recent defection, which held weekend, the remaining 16 members of the PDP executive committee in the state moved enmasse into the newly-registered APC.

The new defectors included the PDP chairman at Gubio Local Government, secretary ward leaders, youth as well as women leaders of the party in the area.

The recent defection followed an earlier one two weeks ago when three out of the 19 members executive in the area led by a former House of Representatives member, Hon Fanta Gubio, defected to APC, saying their decision was based on the lack of vision and good leadership in the PDP.

The 16 members with other party leaders in the area, led by a former PDP House of Assembly candidate in 2003 and 2007, Alhaji Mustapha Fanami, stormed the Maiduguri Government House to announce their movement to APC.

They said they resolved to move into APC after careful assessment of the performance of the government in health, education, agriculture and roads, adding that they concluded that Governor Kashim Shettima and his party “have good intention for the people of the state.”

They also assured everyone that they would work assiduously to move APC to success in all elections in 2015.

Shettima who received the PDP defectors at the Government House in Maiduguri expressed joy at the movement of the party executive to the new fold, describing PDP as “a failed party” in Borno.

According to the governor, “The movement of the remaining 16 executive members in the Local Government today has completed the process as we now have all the 19 exco members of PDP in Gubio Local Government in our party.”

Shettima noted that the ANPP won the governorship and the state legislative position with small margins, saying , while ANPP got 12, 341 votes in the legislative poll, the PDP scored 12, 264 votes, noting that such victory was not impressive judging from the fact that the ANPP was the ruling party.

“We won the House of Assembly seat by 72 votes despite the fact that we are in power but thank God for everything. Gubio Local Government is one of the key area in Northern Borno and we are really craving to have total control in that area and the entire northern Borno,” he said.

The governor maintained that it was important for all the politicians to work together for the return of peace to Borno.
