Red Bull’s Max Verstappen Beats Lewis Hamilton To 2nd Place At Emilia-Romagna

BEVERLY HILLS, April 18, (THEWILL) – Belgian-Dutch racing driver for Red Bull’s Formula 1 racing Team, Max Verstappen, claimed his first race victory of the season leaving Mercedes AMG F1 racing driver, Sir Lewis Hamilton, to salvage a second-place finish in the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix.

The 2021 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix is the Formula One motor race scheduled for Sunday, April 18 at the Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari in Imola, Italy. It is the second round of the 2021 Formula One World Championship.

The Red Bull racer took the lead into Turn One from the start line, but the key moment in the race came at the halfway point when Hamilton ended up in the wall after losing grip. That slip dragged the world champion down to ninth leaving him with a lot of work to do in catching up.

It was not long after that incident that the race was stopped under red flags due to an unfortunate high-speed crash between two Mercedes-contracted drivers, Valtteri Bottas and George Russell, who both pointed accusing fingers at each other as being responsible for the crash.

The collision spewed debris all over the track and could have been worse for the drivers given the speed at which they were going but the immediate observation showed them both to be fine. However, Russell was left fuming at Bottas, whom he was trying to overtake when they collided as the latter tried to defend his position.

Upon restart, Hamilton floored the pedal and made his way up through the pack. But, there was not enough time to catch up with Verstappen, who easily won. The Brit, who did brilliantly to recover after that mid-race disaster, came in second while Belgian-British driver, Lando Norris, clinched a place on the podium in third for McLaren.
