BEVERLY HILLS, April 29, (THEWILL) – The managerial switches taking place across the Bundesliga continued on Thursday with second-placed RB Leipzig publicly confirming the appointment of Red Bull Salzburg manager Jesse Marcsh as their new team coach to take the place of Julian Nagelsmann, after the latter left to resume at League leaders Bayern Munich at the end of the season.

It all began with Hansi Flick’s decision to step down in the summer after a protracted internal conflict with Bayern Sporting Director Hasan Salihamidzic. Flick is expected to join up with the German national team, whose 15-year stint with Die Mannschaft will come to a close after the Euros.

Moving speedily, the Bavarians convinced Nagelsmann to leave Leipzig and take Flick’s place with a record compensation of around £22m to the team chasing them in the league, by this summer.

In step with the league leaders, Leipzig wasted no time in going to market for a new manager. In getting Marsch, they acquire the know-how and experience of a manager who was Ralf Rangnick’s assistant at Leipzig in 2018/19 before moving to sister side Salzburg in the summer of that year.

Leipzig confirmed the appointment on their official website, revealing that their new man has penned a two-year contract and will join the club after the season runs out.

Oliver Mintzlaff, the Head of Football for Leipzig, said: “With Jesse Marsch we were able to sign our dream candidate as the new head coach and quickly fill the most important position in the sporting field at RB Leipzig with a top coach.

“Jesse has done an excellent job in all of his previous positions and has developed step by step. It is naturally a great advantage that he has already worked for RB Leipzig for a year. Jesse knows the club, the city of Leipzig and above all our club and game philosophy.

“In addition to his qualities as a coach, Jesse is characterised above all by his positive and ambitious manner, he can inspire people in and around the club extremely and take them with him.”We look forward to working with Jesse Marsch so that we can continue on our chosen path with him and continue to develop the club. ”

The 47-year-old Marsch enjoyed plenty of success in Austria with Salzburg. He won the double in his first season at the club, helping the likes of Erling Haaland and Dominik Szoboszlai blossom into the superstars they are today. His side is on track to add another league title before Marsch’s departure at the season’s end.
