December 07, (THEWILL) – Ralf Rangnick, Manchester United’s interim manager, has revealed that Donny van de Beek and Dean Henderson will start against Young Boys in the Champions League, as well as two new appointments to his coaching staff.
United have already qualified for the Champions League final 16 after a fantastic win over Villarreal last time out under former interim manager Michael Carrick.
Rangnick will be able to rotate his players in United’s last group game, and the German said in his pre-match news conference that Van de Beek, who had been overlooked in midfield under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, will get his chance, as will goalkeeper Henderson, who has seen David de Gea return to form this season.
Fielding questions about the two players, the German gaffer responded: “Well to start with they will both play tomorrow, in the first XI. Donny came on as a sub last Sunday. Dean is a very ambitious ‘keeper, we need two.”
Confirming that the match would be too soon for Edinson Cavani and Raphael Varane, who have only recently returned to training following injury, Rangnick said: “They both cannot play tomorrow but they were part of the training today. Edi even yesterday, Rapha for the first time.
“Expect them both in full training next week. Both top players. It is also about sustainability. It would be great to have them as soon as possible, but obviously for the rest of the season.”
Rangnick, who is 63 years old, has revealed that he will hire Chris Armas as an assistant coach and a sports scientist, both of whom he worked with closely during his stint with the Red Bull organisation.
“It won’t be that many. Very happy to work with the staff I met last week, they gave me a lot of help,” Rangnick remarked when asked how many people he planned on bringing into Old Trafford.
“We have decided to bring in a sports scientist with Sasha Lense, he will be introduced as soon as he has a visa and work permit. I will also have another assistant coach with Chris Armas.”
