BEVERLY HILLS, June 05, (THEWILL) – Qatar Airways announced on Monday that it is suspending with immediate effect all flights to Saudi Arabia.
A statement from the Doha-based carrier said “Qatar Airways has suspended all flights to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia” until 1159 GMT the same day.
A spokeswoman however pointed out that it is still unclear if the suspension would be extended.
Saudi Arabia, as earlier reported by THEWILL, is among four Arab countries that in the early hours of Monday cut diplomatic ties with the gas-rich Qatar. The others include Bahrain, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates.
Saudi Arabia had said it would shut its land border with Qatar, effectively cutting off the country from the rest of the Arabian Peninsula. It also stated that Qatari troops would be pulled from the ongoing war in Yemen.
