December 03, (THEWILL) – Aliou Cisse has taken ill and this has impacted Senegal’s preparations for their World Cup last-16 match against England.
The coach, who is expected to recover in time for Sunday’s encounter, was unable to participate in training on Friday and might not be available for Saturday’s last session, according to assistant coach, Regis Bogaert.
Speaking in Cisse’s place at their pre-match presser, Bogaert said: “Yesterday (Friday), he let us take the training, using his instructions and the content he had decided. This afternoon (Saturday), we hope he will be on the field but we are sure that tomorrow night, at 10:00 pm (1900 GMT), it is him, who will lead the team.”
When asked about Cisse’s illness, Bogaert merely said that he had “a little fever, that’s why we are vigilant”.
Senegal advanced to the knockout stages of the World Cup by defeating Ecuador in their last Group A encounter, finishing behind the Netherlands, who topped the group. They will take on England in the round of 16 match at 8pm on Sunday.
