November 27, (THEWILL) – Salman Al Faraj, the captain of Saudi Arabia, will miss the rest of the World Cup due to injury.

The Al Hilal defender needed crutches to leave the stadium after suffering a leg injury in Tuesday’s shocking 2-1 victory over Argentina. Al Faraj did not play in Saudi Arabia’s 2-0 defeat to Poland, in their second Group C match on Saturday, and will not participate in their campaign in Qatar in 2022.

The revelation was verified by a Saudi statement on Sunday, which also said that Al Faraj, who has 71 caps for his nation, will go through a comprehensive recuperation programme. Yasser Al Shahrani, who required emergency surgery after a horrific accident with a teammate, Mohammed Al Owais, against Argentina, is also out for Saudi Arabia.

In their last group game against Mexico, a win will see Herve Renard’s Saudi Arabia squad advance to the round of 16 but if Poland defeats Argentina, a draw will be enough to qualify.

However, if Argentina defeats Poland and Saudi Arabia draws, the winner of the group stage will be decided by goal difference.
